My husband and I did several tours in Leon and in Granada. The tour guides are all really knowledgeable and are passionate about sharing their country with visitors. If you get a tour with Leonel, Vladimir, Kike, or Byron, you are in excellent hands! We did two tours that included a meal and Leonel made sure that our dietary restrictions (vegan) were met. The tours are priced reasonably and I appreciated booking directly with the company, knowing that all the money is going directly to the company/tour guides. Overall, we just had a lot of fun. Thank you Mono Loco!Posted on Claire TurnerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We did three activities with Mono Loco: a city tour of Leon, a tour of Leon Vieja and a cookery course. All three were great experiences. The booking was straightforward; communication was prompt and clear and the quality of the guides was superb. It was like being shown around by a friend! For the cookery course, we went shopping in the market then caught a bus to the house of a lady in Leon. We cooked with her over an open fire a most delicious typical Nicaraguan stew. Altogether a wonderful day!Posted on Emmy RaschTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Everything was super well organized and everyone was super friendly :-) food and accomodation was simple but very nice as well. Would definitely recommend! We saw some wild animals and went hiking and on a night boat tour.Posted on Isaac FelschTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had an incredible experience working with mono loco tours in Nicaragua. From the initial planning stages, your team was friendly, helpful, and kind, providing excellent advice on locations and assisting with shuttle arrangements beyond our scheduled tours. The four-day jungle tour was a highlight of my trip. The logistics were seamless, from the pickup in Granada to the journey down the San Juan River. I particularly enjoyed our time in El Castillo and the nature reserve. The jungle camp was well-equipped and charming, and the local food provided throughout the trip was delicious. The itinerary—including the night excursions, horseback riding, food cooking lessons and cocoa experiences—was wonderful. I also appreciated your help with our return to Granada and the last-minute coordination of private shuttles for the remainder of our trip. Seeing the Masaya Volcano at sunset on our final day was a perfect addition. Thank you for making this such an amazing experience. I will highly recommend Mono Loco Tours to any friends or family visiting the areaPosted on Wilma BergerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Posted on Ties Huis in 't VeldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an amazing walking tour with guide Leo in Leon. He is a true storyteller and very knowledgeable of his city. I would definitely recommend this agency!Posted on Merle RadowTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great Mangrove tour including turtle release from León. Knowledgeable and friendly local guide and boat driver (who spotted an aligator!) with great and easy communication and punctual pick up from our hostel. Would recommend!Posted on Felix GillilandTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The revolution tour is a must if you want to understand Leon! It's unlike anything else you'll find in the city, and Leo brought it to life with his stories. The revolution is in living memory in Leon, and taking this tour made me see it everywherePosted on Sara BTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an amazing experience with this travel agency in Nicaragua. Everything was very well organized, and you can really feel the passion and personal care they put into the work. On Ometepe, they arranged our kayak trip, we explored the island in a unique way. In Las Peñitas, they helped us arrange surf lessons, making the whole experience smooth, easy, and fun. Thanks to their local knowledge and great network, we could fully enjoy our trip without any worries. They really care about your trip, they think along with you. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to discover Nicaragua in an authentic and stress-free way.Posted on Robert AitchisonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Did the easy trail on Mombacho. Fantastic guide (Tiger) with lots of great extra knowledge. Easy to arrange with Monoloco and good price. Recommended.
All Kind of Activities
Nicaragua is a country waiting to be discovered a unique and diverse travel destination. Visitors often ask why it’s not more famous, yet Nicaragua has it all. We’re here to showcase its hidden gems beyond the usual tourist spots.
For most countries a visa is not needed. Please note that although a visa is not required, holders of British, US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and most EU passports are required to pay US$10 for a tourist card on arrival.
There’s good access to ATMs in nearly all towns and cities. But be aware that we go to locations where there is not ATM. We will tell you in advance when we go to a place where there is no ATM so you can bring enough cash.
Drinking tap water in Nicaragua isn’t recommended for first time travellers. The locals all drink the tap water and we do too. Our advise is to fill a reusable water bottle or canteen with filtered water. It’s also advisable to avoid ice in drinks.
Recommended vaccinations for Nicaragua include hepatitis a, tetanus, rabies, and typhoid. You’ll also need to show proof of a yellow fever vaccination if you’ve travelled from somewhere with a risk of yellow fever transmission.
Nicaragua has a tipping culture, especially in restaurants and bars. In some places a 10% tip is added to the bill.
There are several times during the trip where there is an opportunity to tip the local guides or drivers we use. Recommendations for tipping drivers and local guides would range from USD $5-10 USD depending on the quality and length of the service.
