One of the youngest volcanoes in the world

Cerro Negro is Nicaragua’s youngest and most iconic volcano, located just outside León. Formed in 1850, it last erupted in 1999 and is famous for its deep black volcanic sand and perfect slopes for volcano boarding. The hike to the top takes about 45 minutes, where you’re rewarded with stunning views before racing down the ash-covered side on a board. Volcano boarding is an adrenaline-filled adventure and one of the most unique experiences in Central America combining nature, thrill, and the raw energy of a living volcano.
